Paul Murphy of Murwillumbah Services Club is partial to a little two-up.
TWO-UP has returned to Queensland pubs and clubs this ANZAC Day after the state government made the game legal for that one day of remembrance.
Many RSL clubs in Queensland already played the game, popular with Australian soldiers in World War One, during ANZAC Day and police turned a blind eye to the practice.
This legislation was passed through Queensland Parliament yesterday to ensure no one was prosecuted for playing two up on ANZAC Day.
Murwillumbah Services Club assistant manager Paul Murphy said two-up was legal in NSW and an important part of the ANZAC Day celebrations.
"It's pretty popular all the bars and clubs run it on ANZAC Day," Mr Murphy said.
"A lot of the older diggers prefer it but the younger ones and the Vietnam boys were getting into it."
A Currumbin RSL spokeswoman said the club did run events during ANZAC Day and were planning the same again this year.
The Queensland Government changed the Charitable and Non-Profit Gaming Act 1999 to allow for two-up games to be conducted on Anzac Day.
The change also allows for two-up on other military remembrance days throughout the year.
Two-up is gambling game where a "spinner" throws two coins into the air.
Players gamble on whether the coins will fall with both heads up, both tails up, or with one coin a head, and one a tail.
