SKELETAL remains and remnants of clothing have been found in scrubland just north of Pottsville.
Police said a member of the public found the complete skeleton in the scrub separating the beach and Tweed Coast Rd just north of Pottsville about 4.45pm on Thursday.
Late yesterday afternoon, Tweed crime manager Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said police believed they knew the identity of the body but were unable to release the name, age or gender until family had been notified.
"We think we know who it is and we hope to be able to confirm the identity soon," Act Insp Wiseman said.
Police are not treating the finding as suspicious.
