TWEED Heads women went down fighting in the Queensland State Pennants women's final against Mooloolaba at Tweed Heads Bowls Club yesterday.
Mooloolaba won two of the three foursomes matches to score a 62-57 victory over the Tweed Heads ladies who fought it right out to the finish on all three rinks.
Alison Ebsworth's team lost 22-16 and Helen Bosito's fours went down fighting, giving up a couple of shots on the final two ends to be edged out 19-15.
There was better news on the third rink where Anne-Marie Hardy's team of Lauren Wilson (lead), Alice Plowright and Pam Dearlove recorded a solid 25-21 victory.
In the men's finals action, Pine Rivers won two of the three rinks and posted a 63-48 win over South Toowoomba.
Pine Rivers' two winners were Robbie Wild (22-11) and Joe Wood (25-15) while Michael Brown's fours went down 22-16.
In the earlier sectional play in the women's competition, Mooloolaba advanced to the final after winning section one with a 4 games +33 shots scoreline while the home side won section two, 6+27.
Tweed Heads went through the sectional play undefeated after beating West Toowoomba 70-49, Bargara 60-56 and the powerful Pine Rivers 55-53.
Pine Rivers men advanced to the final after winning section one 4+33 and South Toowoomba romped home in section two, also going through undefeated 6+62.
The format for the pennants finals was that each club fielded three foursomes who did battle on three rinks against opposing teams.
The club that compiled the most shots at the completion of the 21-ends matches was crowned the premier club.
