Success for CSG mining rallies

THE numbers are in for Tweed's National Day of Action rallies, with huge crowds showing up to voice their concern for coal seam gas mining.

Northern Rivers Guardians spokesman Michael McNamara said the people who showed up on Sunday were informed about the issue and eager to have their voices heard.

" We had 200 people at the Tweed Heads rally, 400 in Murwillumbah, 250 in Uki, 78 in Tyalgum, 120 at Mt Burrell, and around 100 in Burringbar," Mr McNamara said.

"We also had around 250 people who could not make it on the day register online for a virtual day of action.

"When you add these numbers together with the numbers from other towns like Byron Bay and Nimbin you see there were around 7000 people from the Northern Rivers rallying against CSG."

Seven different protest rallies were held across the Tweed region on Sunday with attendees brandishing signs and wearing T-shirts that declared their stance against CSG mining.
