Tweed resident Gita Dunbar is ready for Sunday’s rally with her newly-painted protest banner.
TWEED residents have pulled together to ensure their region has a voice at the Defend Our Water National Day of Action rally in Sydney on Sunday.
Members of the Lock the Gate organisation and the Northern Rivers Guardians have been holding banner painting days in the build-up to the event.
The members have ensured many regions across the Tweed Shire will be represented by banners and community members at the Sydney rally.
Northern Rivers Guardians president Scott Sledge said every community that is holding its own rally will also have a banner presence in Sydney.
"There will be banners from Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah, Burringbar, Uki, Tyalgum, Byrrill Creek and Mt Burrell," Mr Sledge said.
"We have made two banners for each of our regions taking part in the rally, one to stay here for the day of action on Sunday and one to travel to Sydney.
"The Tweed region will be represented in Sydney with the banners and we hope to have members there to carry them."
Mr Sledge said it was still important for members of the community to attend the rallies held across Tweed if they were passionate about voicing their concern.
"It's very important for people to attend these rallies because once our water is gone, it's gone. Then it will be too late," Mr Sledge.
"If you do one important thing this year for the environment and for our water supply then this is it.
"We encourage all residents to take part in the rally and say no to coal seam gas mining."
Protest rallies against coal seam gas mining will be held across the Tweed this Sunday from 11am (NSW).
