AT least 882 Far North Coast jobs will be lost under proposed reforms to poker machines, according to leading financial services network KPMG.
The report states the technology, intended to force gamblers to nominate a limit on their spending, will cost Far North Coast clubs $73 million to install and will cause revenue to plummet by $74 million a year.
Far North Coast club representatives met at the Mullumbimby Ex-Services Club yesterday to discuss the impact of the proposed technology, put forward by the federal government in return for the support of Tasmanian independent MP Andrew Wilkie.
