Tweed student Riana Nicholson, 12, enjoys the state’s highest rainfall.
TWEED HEADS experienced the highest rainfall in New South Wales on Tuesday night with 74.6 mm of rain falling from a stormy sky.
A spokesman from the New South Wales Bureau of Metrology said the rainfall was measured in a 24-hour period that spanned Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The rainfall was measured between 9am on Tuesday morning to 9am on Wednesday morning and was the highest rainfall in the state,” the spokesman said.
“Murwillumbah had a rainfall of 17 mm within the same time period.” Tweed Heads Police Inspector Darren Steel said Tweed motorists were urged to drive with extra caution during rainfall.
“We always advise motorists to drive to the road conditions and not just to the speed limit in the area. If it is raining slow down,” Inspector Steel said.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted the rain will continue in Tweed with thunderstorms and heavy showers.
