Youths revel in free pool party and other Eyes Wide events
YOUNG Valley residents got the chance to cool off, have some fun and learn a valuable lesson or two at a free pool party held in Grafton on Saturday as part of the Council's Eyes Wide youth initiative.
The party was among a schedule of events being held around the Valley at the moment aimed at educating young residents about the risks of binge drinking and providing them with interesting and positive alternatives to drinking.
Council acting deputy general manager Dave Morrison said the turn-out to the pool party had exceeded expectations.
"We think we had a bit over 160 people there, so we're really happy with that outcome," Mr Morrison said.
"The kids had free entry, free rides on the waterslide, a bit of live music and the Grafton Midday Rotary put on a free lunch for them, so we think they really enjoyed themselves."
Mr Morrison said other Eyes Wide Events were also well patronised.
Any Valley residents aged 12-18 who missed out on the pool party or the other events last week can still get in on the action with plenty of events still to come in the Eyes Wide schedule of events. .
