Youngblutt announces ticket
PHIL Youngblutt has announced his council team through a letterbox drop to residents across the Tweed.
Tweed shire Councillor Youngblutt said he had a strong team for the campaign, with the similar policies from a variety of backgrounds.
"We are all members of The Nationals," Cr Youngblutt said.
"Our aims are similar to The Nationals.
"However the party does not endorse council candidates."
Cr Youngblutt ran as an independent in his last campaign but he said it was important to promote his party alignment with the Greens, Liberals and Labor parties running candidates.
"We are identifying ourselves as a group of Nationals," he said.
The other four members of Cr Youngblutt's team are Rob Hawken, Bruce Weston, Katherine Butterworth (second on the ticket) and Anthony Dupuis.
Mr Hawken is a Duranbah sugar cane farmer, Mr Weston and Ms Butterworth own Murwillumbah businesses and Mr Dupuis, at 21 years of age, is the youngest member of the team.
Mr Dupuis is an ex-army officer who studies at Kingscliff TAFE and is also a member of the Murwillumbah Football Club.
Cr Youngblutt said the team stood to build the Byrrill Creek Dam, revitalise South Murwillumbah, build infrastructure in Tweed Heads and Banora Point and oppose a coal-seam gas industry in the region.
Earlier this year Cr Youngblutt announced his retirement from the council, but supporters convinced him to contest the local elections in September.
