Young surfers out to impress
FINALS day of the Queensland Junior State Surf Titles kicked off in clean 2ft waves against the rock wall at Duranbah beach.
With Queensland state team selection, the main goal there was plenty of exceptional surfing on display from both the girls and boys divisions.
In quarter final one of the under-18 boys Elli Steele put on an impressive display of balanced rail surfing mixed with two huge airs to post a nine-point ride.
In the girls under 18s Ellie Brooks was a standout with her flowing style linking sections together in tricky conditions as the tide turned before lunchtime.
The event was a stepping stone for Queensland's world tour Surfers Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge.
Top four surfers in each division go on to represent the state later this year in Tasmania at the Australian Junior Surf Titles.
