SLIPPERY and wet conditions contributed to a young driver losing control and flipping his car last night.

About 6.20pm police were called to Terranora Rd, Banora Point to reports of a red Holden Commodore on its roof.

Tweed Byron Local Area Command Inspector Leanne Edmonds said the 17-year-old driver lost control about 1km west of Kiora St.

"He lost control around a series of bends which caused the car to spin and hit an embankment because of the wet conditions," she said.

"The car rolled and came to rest on the roof.

"The vehicle was extensively damaged."

The provisional licence holder from Terranora was unharmed.

NSW Fire and Rescue were called to the scene and the car was towed.
