Young and old pause to remember at Pottsville
RAIN and wind did not deter the crowd that gathered at the Pottsville war memorial on Sunday.
Gathering to remember the fallen through war, they huddled against the weather to pay their respects.
Among them, were four little girls wearing poppies.
They had been told the story of their great, great grandfather who was taken by war.
"I don't know a lot about war," 10-year-old McKenzie Phillips said.
"But I know that we have a good life in Australia because of people like my great, great grandfather who fought to keep our freedom."
Her father Simon said it was important to educate children on their history, but especially on the importance of freedom and preserving our way of life.
"I will always raise my kids to honour those brave people who gave their lives or risked their lives so we can enjoy democracy and freedom," he said.
The family are heading off overseas soon.
"We will be visiting France and Italy," Mr Phillips said.
"I feel we will see a lot of our war history more clearly by visiting the places our soldiers fought in."
