THEY may have been the last school in the Northern Rivers to undergo a total make-over but the St Joseph's Primary School community in Woodburn knows it's been worth the wait.

As part of the Building in Education Revolution, funded by the Federal Government, the small Catholic school has waited patiently for its turn to receive new classrooms, library, toilets and a grand new formal entry.

"Students were flexible and adapted to the demountable classrooms," principal Janelle Heffernan said.

"They waited patiently while only having bitumen to play on as the ovals were too wet."

Ms Heffernan thanked the school community of students, parents and staff who underwent the inconvenience of a building site and temporary classrooms while the project took shape.

The project cost $4.39 million and the school has been described as unrecognisable compared to how it looked in November 2011.

The students themselves were excited to now be learning in state-of-the art classrooms as well as having use of other new amenities.

"The new school is good because the toilets are so clean," kindergarten student Lilly Sauer said.
