TWEED police are still seeking witnesses to a collision between a pedestrian and a truck on the Pacific Hwy on Monday.

Tweed Inspector Darren Steel said anyone who witnessed the incident and has not talked to police was urged to do so.

Police closed the southbound lanes of the Pacific Hwy for four hours on Monday after a man walked across the highway and collided with a truck on the left hand, southbound lane, about 150m south of the Murwillumbah overpass.

The man died at the scene and the driver of the truck was taken to Tweed Hospital for assessment.

A witness to the accident said the man appeared to be trying to cross the southbound lanes to get back to his car, which was parked on the left hand side of the highway, several hundred metres from the Murwillumbah exit.

Traffic was being diverted along Tweed Valley Way with B-doubles being allowed past the accident scene because the detour was inadequate for the trucks.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact Tweed Police on 07 5536 0999.
