Winter chill arrives early

WINTER blew into the Tweed this week.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a wind warning for coastal waters off the Tweed from Point Danger.

The bureau expected southerly winds up to 30 knots easing tonight and a swell up to 3m.

Boaties were listening to the bureau's warnings and opted to stay in.

A Point Danger Marine Rescue spokesman said the rescue unit recorded 108 boats heading out on the Monday public holiday to take advantage of the calm conditions.

The number of boats crossing the Tweed River bar fell rapidly with only one chancing the conditions today.

The bureau's forecast for the Tweed for the next few days is for winds to continue tomorrow before dropping slightly into the weekend.

Showers and maximums in the mid twenties were expected for the next seven days.
