COACH Neil Hellyar has declared himself satisfied after seeing his Lismore side open its Far North Coast Under-19 inderdistrict cricket campaign in style.

Jake Hellyar struck an unbeaten 76 then starred with the ball as Lismore condemned Ballina to a 62-run loss at Nielson Park, East Lismore, yesterday.

Nathanael Scott's half-century was in vain for the visitors, who were put to the sword by a solid all-around performance from the hosts.

Hellyar snr said his side had put in a clinical display against its weakened opponents.

"Ballina had a few players out, which was tough on them," he said.

"We got away to a flyer and Jake kept the score ticking over when he came in at No 4.

"I thought we played quite solidly and did well."

Jake Hellyar's superb contribution helped his side rack up 6-242 from its 50 overs.

Ashley Simes and Kale Hare each made 37 as Lismore made a commanding total.

Ballina was behind the eight-ball almost immediately after making a slow start to its innings.

Scott made 58 but his side was dismissed for 180 in the 48th over.

Hellyar, Daniel Sproule and Mitchell Holland each finished with two wickets for Lismore.

"Ballina were always behind," Hellyar said.

"Once they needed seven or eight (runs) an over, it was always going to be tough."

Hellyar also said he was disappointed the competition would now be a three-team event.

Casino made a late decision to withdraw this year, citing a lack of player numbers.

Remaining side Tweed had a bye in the opening round.

"It's not ideal," Hellyar said.

"I can see Casino's point of view. Last year they had a young side and got towelled up. I am hoping they will be back next year."
