KIM ROLPH-SMITH operates adventure flights and aerial shows, from Brisbane and has been flying vintage aircraft for 20 years.

To this year's Great Eastern Fly-In he brought a T28 Trojan built in the USA in 1952 and a Yak 52 made in Russia 10 years ago. His son Cameron was also at the aviators' gathering.

He and his family have been part of the fly-in for 18 years.

"We want to make sure that the airport remains open in Evans," he said.

"Everyone loves it. It is a great venue, very safe as there are not many buildings around and nobody is disturbed by noise."

He met visitors from Perth, Melbourne and New Zealand.

Mr Rolph-Smith was also happy to see some rare warbirds at Evans Head.

"The P-51 Mustang has a lot of history from WWII, so does the Wirraways we saw here this weekend," he said.

Big crowds and fine weather ensured the day's success.
