Wanted: surrogate mother for cloned Neanderthal baby
IF THERE is a woman out there game enough to have a cloned Neanderthal foetus implanted in their womb, a scientist in the US wants her phone number.
Harvard Professor George Church believes he has extracted enough DNA from neanderthal fossils to clone a baby if he could find "an adventurous woman" to act as a surrogate.
According to News.com, Prof Church said neanderthals, which are believed to have become extinct more than 30,000 years ago, were possibly more intelligent than humans and altering the human genome could unlock secrets to curing diseases like cancer and HIV.
"We can clone all kinds of mammals, so it's very likely that we could clone a human," Prof Church said
"Why shouldn't we be able to do so?"
