Wanted man still on the run after air, land search

A HIGH risk wanted man is still on the loose despite a five hour search effort that involved the police helicopter yesterday.

Coolangatta police sergeant Steve Quinn said about midday Highway Patrol pulled over a man for a traffic infringement on Stewart Rd Currumbin.

While police were checking his information he fled the scene ditching his car and a female passenger on the side of the road.

"He decanted on foot," Sgt Quinn said.

"He is wanted on an outstanding police matter."

The 35-year-old man, who is considered transient as he has no fixed address, was wanted on a return to prison warrant.

Sgt Quinn said PolAir, a dog squad unit and uniformed and plain clothed officers were involved in the search.

The female passenger was unable to assist police with the man's location.
