Visiting monks spreading zen in Kingscliff this week
FIVE monks are spreading joy and zen around Kingscliff.
Uki Buddhist monk Geshe Gedun is hosting four monks touring the country from India.
"We are creating a sand mandala," he said.
"This is good for healing sickness and bringing good energy.
"The mandala is beautiful, like art, and it will take one week to complete."
A sand mandala is essentially a painting made with coloured sand which takes some time to make.
It is traditionally destroyed when completed to symbolise the Buddhist belief in the transitory nature of material life.
The visiting Indian monks will be in Kingscliff until the end of the week.
"They're enjoying sharing their culture," Geshe Gedun said.
This week they're based next to the Kathmandu restaurant on Marine Pde.
Anyone is welcome to visit and watch the monks create their sand Mandela.
