US Super Bowl watched by Tweed enthusiasts
GRIDIRON enthusiasts gathered yesterday to watch the annual championship of the American super game, the super bowl, at the Twin Towns Tavern, Tweed Heads.
The National Football League decider match featuring the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens was broadcast live from New Orleans on Fox Sports.
"Usually I have a Super Bowl party, but this year quite a few of us decided to come to the sports bar here at the Twin Towns," Brock Nielsen, of Tweed Heads, said.
"I enjoy American sports, I normally go for the Seahawks but I like the quarterback on the 49ers."
Samantha Hurst, who was also watching the game, said she went for the Ravens because she liked their uniforms.
"We all came down together today to watch the game," she said.
The game drew local fans in barracking for both teams. One fan, Brent Nicholls, said he watched the super bowl every year.
"I like a lot of sport and am usually a Giants fan, but I'm going for the 49ers," he said.
However, not everybody at the tavern was there for the game, some just wanted to have a few drinks.
After a tense game that kept spectators abroad on edge, the Baltimore Ravens took out the 2013 NFL championship with a 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
