TWO people have survived a horrific crash at Numulgi that left the car's driver trapped for an hour and a half, police have said.

Posting on their Facebook page, Richmond Local Area Command police have said the crash happened when the car crashed into a tree beside Duncans Rd about noon yesterday.

Both the driver and passenger were trapped. However, the passenger was released quickly by emergency services.

However, it took about 90 minutes to free the driver, whose seat had the steering wheel column and part of the engine block pushed into it by the impact of the crash. The driver was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment, although no details on injuries were available.

Police have said they suspect speed was a factor in the crash.

The Accident Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
