Two surfers likely drowned

THE parents of two young surfers missing off the NSW Central Coast since Sunday will be forced to sleep tonight with the knowledge their sons had likely drowned.

Trey Adamson, 18, and Ben Winn, 20, went on a beach adventure with their 18-year-old friend Niranda Blair early Sunday.

The alarm was raised when their belongings were found abandoned on a rock shelf.

Ms Blair's body washed up on Ghosties beach about 9.30am.

On Monday, police and rescue helicopters swept the area and used thermal technology to try and pick up heat signals.

Police scaled back the search on Tuesday morning but divers and a search helicopter continued to look for the friends until dark.

While their families were still hopeful on Tuesday night their loved ones may be hiding out in a cave, police have warned them to prepare for the worst.

Divers will go back to the search area early Wednesday.
