Twin Towns donates a whopping $100,000 to flood victims
TWIN Towns Services Club and its community services foundation have donated $100,000 to assist Tweed and South East Queensland residents affected by the recent floods.
The club's board chairman Michael Fraser met with the Salvation Army on February 7, to hand over the cheque, taking the Salvo's completely by surprise.
"There wasn't any fuss or bother over it, we just went out there, sat down at the table with them and gave them the cheque," Mr Fraser said.
"We gave them a cheque for $50,000 from Twin Towns and $50,000 from the services foundation and they were ecstatic."
Mr Fraser said the Salvation Army was chosen due to the support it had given Twin Towns over recent years.
He said that the club would continue to do what they could to lend a hand to those in need.
"We are a community club, everything we do goes back into and the community," he said.
Salvation Army Major Darren Elfley said the donation was great news for flood affected residents.
"They were just coming in to see us to have a cuppa, we had no idea. It was out of the blue," he said.
"It's wonderful; so many people will need assistance. Our resources are stressed and stretched and this will make a huge difference."
Mr Elfley said the donation was appreciated and it would be put to good use.
"An overwhelming bid of thanks for their continued support. We can't do what we do without continued support," he said
Mr Elfley said that those badly affected by floods should contact their local Salvation Army for an interview, which would help determine where the money would be spent.
