ALMOST 18 months after the completion of stage one of the Jack Evans Boat Harbour, a new regular market is planned to take advantage of the site.

Tweed Shire Council is considering a development application for a temporary twilight market to be help regularly in the park on the edge of the harbour.

The council's recreation services manager Stewart Brawley said one of the reasons for the upgrade of the harbour was to bring events, like a regular market, to the centre of the tourist hub.

"This was part of the intent along will providing a great asset for the community," Mr Brawley said.

Mr Brawley said the twilight markets would be more of a creative market place.

"There are plenty of those markets (trash & treasure) and we don't want to compete with markets that already exist," he said.

"We want to run something that would help support the businesses in the area.

"I suppose that any market starts small and builds as the word get out."

Mr Brawley said there had already been some interest from vendors in having a stall at Jack Evans Boat Harbour.

Tweed Shire Council lodged the development application and its management would go out through a tender process.
