A MAJOR Tweed road was re-opened today after more than four days closed due to flooding.

Tweed Shire Council opened the Tweed Valley Way this morning reconnecting the shortest route between Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads.

According to a council statement, traffic was reduced to single lanes in both directions and restricted to speeds of 60kmh.

"Council will reassess the situation when the tide comes up this afternoon ," the statement said. Clothier Creek Rd and Dulguigan Rd were opened but caution was needed.
