Tweed Shire to consider changes to meeting times

COUNCILLORS' work commitments have prompted Tweed Shire Council to consider moving back to night meetings.

The council has held its monthly meetings during business hours for the last year.

The proposal, which will be voted on tonight (Thursday), was workshopped at last month's council meeting.

Mayor Barry Longland says he expects the council to adopt the recommendations.

"The recommendation coming before council tonight reflects both the availability of councilors, that is those councils that have full time employment outside of council duties, and the ability for the public to be able to attend the meetings," he said.

Other initiatives to be considered tonight include a proposal for business papers to be submitted earlier and for community submissions to be held on Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

Tonight's council meeting will be held at 6pm at the Council Chambers at Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre.
