TWEED Hospital employees were required to move 30 patients after part of the hospital's roof tore away.

Tweed/Byron Health Services Group acting executive director Ann Schefe said the roof gave way Monday morning.

"By mid morning it was evident that SES had to come in to do repairs," Ms Schefe said.

"The roof was damaged over the paediatric and orthopaedic wards.

"Patients in the paediatric ward were moved to the maternity ward and the surgery patients to another surgery ward.

"It was all done in a very orderly manner."

Ms Schefe arrived at the hospital shortly after the roof was damaged and coordinated the moving on patients to safer areas of the hospital.

The roof is still being repaired.
