MASTER builder GJ Gardner Homes Tweed Heads has won two major awards at a Building Industry Awards gala dinner held last Saturday.

GJ Gardner took out the hotly contested best home award in the $500,000 to $700,000 category and also went home with the best medium development award for townhouses and villas.

Owner of GJ Gardner Homes, Peter Leotta, said he was proud of his team which he had carefully crafted over the last 10 years.

Mr Leotta said winning the awards were a collective effort which couldn't have been achieved without the work of the best tradies in the area and was recognition of the quality of the workmanship delivered.

The outstanding features which secured the award were the overall quality, finish, construction, design, materials as well as the value for money element of the home.

The house, located at Salt Village, represented good value for money and delivered unrivalled levels of quality and finish.

"I'm very proud of what we've built," Mr Leotta said.

GJ Gardner's second award was for a four townhouse development in Pottsville which Mr Leotta described as "upmarket and custom built."

The company had delivered a complex project which met high expectations of service and quality.

The clients were stand out customers and communicated their wishes very well, Mr Leotta said.

Good communication with clients was crucial as it allowed the company to find out exactly what the customer wanted and gave the builder the opportunity to meet expectations.

Mr Leotta said the awards provided recognition from industry peers and made him "very proud, doing what I'm doing".

These days, the business environment was more challenging, however, Mr Leotta was positive about the future.

Local business was all about longevity and after 10 years his business was well entrenched in the community, Mr Leotta added.

The awards were a real boost to staff's morale and offered motivational support rather than immediate financial gains.

In 2010, G J Gardner Homes Tweed Heads won a South-East Queensland regional award for Gold Coast Home of the Year and a Queensland State Award for Queensland Home of the Year.

The company also won Rising Star of the Year Award in 2010.
