Trio charged with school laptop theft

MORE than a dozen laptops stolen from a Tweed Heads school and a number of businesses have been recovered by police.

The operation headed by Palm Beach uniformed police on October 3 recovered the 13 laptops.

Police also located quantities of marijuana and an unregistered firearm.

Property from a break and enter at Coolangatta was also located during the operation.

Three people from the southern Gold Coast were arrested on 10 charges including burglary, receiving tainted property, enter with intent, as well as dangerous drug and weapon possession.

Gold Coast Police District Southern Patrol Services Inspector Damien Crosby said there was often a relationship between drug offences and property crime.

"It's certainly not unusual to recover quantities of stolen property, in addition to illicit drugs, during the execution of search warrants," he said.

The laptops will be photographed and examined before being returned to their owners.

The trio will appear at the Coolangatta Magistrates Court on November 26.
