Total fire ban lifted in Tweed as showers bring relief
NSW Rural Fire Service has lifted a total ban in the Tweed today.
A weather change and scattered showers that passed through overnight has reduced temperatures across the region and also lowered the fire danger.
According to the fire service, the risk has reduced from severe to high.
On Wednesday, NSW Rural Fire Service area manager for the Tweed David Cook said the region had been "very lucky" to avoid a serious fire incident.
Mr Cook said all fire crews were on standby when the severe fire warning and total fire ban was in place.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded temperatures at Murwillumbah of 32 degrees at 3pm Wednesday a few degrees cooler than forecast.
Despite the cooler than expected conditions, strong winds and low humidity ahead of last night's change pushed the fire threat higher.
