Thugs tie up and assault cleaning staff at Bowlo

POLICE are following up leads in relation to an unprovoked attack at Cabarita Bowls Club on Saturday.

Up to five thugs ransacked and robbed the club just before 1am.

Two middle aged male cleaners were tied up before one was assaulted with a pool cue resulting in 14 stitches to the head.

Tweed-Byron LAC crime manager Inspector Saul Wiseman said the leads were being followed up.

"We're hoping that leads to an identity," he said.

"But it's a bit early to say as yet."

The thugs stole cash from one of the cleaners and the poker machines before fleeing the scene.

The cleaners managed to free themselves and alert the authorities.

Specialist forensics officers examined the crime scene and seized a number of items as evidence.

Police are now asking for the publics help in a bid to identify the thieves.

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the Cabarita Road club early Saturday urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: www1.police.nsw.gov.au/.
