Tweed police are looking for dog-nappers and car-jackers.

A BELOVED pet dog was returned to its owner after a scary ordeal this morning.

Earlier today Tweed Heads Police were seeking the assistance of the public to help locate a stolen maroon coloured Toyota Camry sedan.

About 11am a 77-year-old female driver left 11-year-old Jack Russell Baxter in the car with the engine running and air conditioning on while she quickly ducked into Bunnings at Tweed Heads South.

"Upon returning 10 minutes later found her car with and Baxter, her pet dog missing," a police spokesman said.

Baxter was located safe and well this afternoon and was returned to his grateful owner.

Unfortunately her car is still missing.

If you spot a maroon Toyota Camry with NSW plates ATM-84C please call Tweed Police on 07 5536 0999.
