THIEVES broke into Murwillumbah High School last night but abandoned the idea after alarms went off.

The incident occurred at about 10pm and the alarm was triggered after the offenders tried to remove a glass sliding window to gain entry.

Tweed Heads Acting Inspector Jason Dowds said the break-in was unsuccessful due to proper security measures by the school.

"There was a break in at Murwillumbah High," he said.

"One of the windows was removed, but the alarm went off and the offenders left the scene.

"There was no property stolen."

If you have any information regarding the attempted robbery contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
