'Elvis' spotted during worst Tweed flood in years
THERE'S a relatively obscure song by Elvis Presley called "When it Rains it Really Pours."
That came out in 1957, around the time of one of Tweed Heads' worst floods.
"Elvis" was singing it again at Cudgen this week as flood waters receded from his house.
Kevin Martin is an Elvis impersonator and karaoke star.
His house took a hammering over the weekend when floodwaters washed through the bottom floor.
"It's no joke when you wake up to find your home surrounded by flood water,' he said.
"With the threat of taipan and king brown snakes as you wade through the deluge, all you can do is laugh, or sing.
"What else can you do in such a situation?"
Mr Martin and Rose Martin live on the flat next to Tweed Coast Road.
They have lived there since 1988, but claim this is the worst flood they have seen.
"The water came up so quickly.
"It was quite alarming.
