THE Tweed Shire Council offered a lifeline to BP in its planned expansion of the Chinderah service station by deferring a recommendation to refuse the application.

The council officers recommended refusal because the proposed development was not allowed on the land.

The council requested further information into flooding, stormwater, access, parking, noise and ecology in February last year but had not received further information from the applicant.

The applicant wrote to the council and councillor requesting the vote to refuse the application be deferred.

Councillor Warren Polglase supported the deferral.

"I have heard words around the council and other places that we are a business-friendly council," Cr Polglase said

"This delay gives the office the time to review the application and the applicants time to get the information in."

Councillor Kevin Skinner was concerned about the impact of the development on Chinderah residents.

The vote to defer the decisions was passed five votes to two against.
