IT has been a year since flooding in the Tweed uprooted communities along the river and caused extensive damage across the shire.

This Saturday's Daily News will look back at some of the stories and long-term impact the floods had on these communities.

On January 25 and 26, 296.5mm of rain fell in Murwillumbah, on an already soaked landscape from previous downpours earlier that month.

SES crews evacuated communities along the Tweed River, including Chinderah, South Murwillumbah and Tumbulgum on January 25.

The weather system affected many areas of the North Coast in the following days as it slowly moved south.
