Tevez hat-trick secures FA Cup victory for Manchester City

BARNSLEY probably wished police had detained Manchester City's striker Carlos Tevez longer after the Argentinean, arrested for allegedly driving while disqualified on Thursday, scored a hat-trick to send the Championship side crashing out of the FA Cup.

He also set up goals for Aleksandar Kolarov and David Silva in the 5-0 win as City joined Wigan in the semi-finals.

If charged and found guilty, Tevez, banned from driving for six months in January, faces the prospect of spending some time behind bars as the offence carries a maximum six-month jail term.

Wigan made history by reaching the last four for the first time in the club's 81-year history after beating Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park.

The home fans were stunned into silence after Maynor Figueroa, Callum McManaman and Jordi Gomez all scored in a devastating four-minute spell in the first-half.

The teams to join Wigan and City will be decided today after Millwall took on Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United played Chelsea overnight.

In Premier League action, Aston Villa climbed out of the bottom three after coming from behind to win 2-1 at second-last Reading with goals from Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

QPR remain bottom, despite a 3-1 home win against Sunderland.

All three goals were scored by January transfer window signings - Loic Remy, Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas, after Steven Fletcher had given the visitors a commanding lead.

West Bromwich Albion also came from behind to win 2-1 at home against Swansea City and move to seventh on the ladder.

Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc was the hero at Norwich after he saved an injury-time penalty from Grant Holt to earn his team a share of the points in a goalless draw.
