Boy, 16, collapses and dies after swimming at Kingscliff
UPDATE, 3.21pm: The NSW Department of Education has released the name of a 16-year-old boy who died at Kingscliff this afternoon.
Kingscliff High School Year 10 student Riley Gillespie collapsed during a lesson at the Cudgen Creek.
"He received immediate medical attention from staff until the emergency services arrived," a statement said.
"Riley passed away in hospital this afternoon."

INITIAL REPORT: A teenager has collapsed and died after leaving the water at Kingscliff.
About midday today emergency crews were on the scene at Jack Julius Park, where it's believed the boy was swimming on a school trip.
It's understood he left the water and collapsed.
Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Inspector Jason Dowds said the boy died at the scene.
No further information is available at this time.
