Teen driver airlifted after crash

EMERGENCY services rushed to a single vehicle crash on the Evans Head/Broadwater Rd, 4km from Evans Head at 6.40pm last night.

When police, paramedics, fire brigades and the SES arrived on the scene they found a 17-year-old woman trapped in her car after colliding head-on with a tree.

The woman was trapped inside the vehicle for a short period of time before being released by SES workers.

Police closed the road just after 7pm so the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter could land to transport the woman, who sustained a broken arm as well as leg and chest injuries.

She was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to Lismore Base hospital in a stable condition.
