Taxi driver punched in the face and knocked unconscious

A TAXI driver was knocked unconscious in an assault at Palm Beach on Saturday night.

Gold Coast Police are investigating the incident that occurred when a taxi driver was returning to a property at an address in Nyrang Court at about 7.30pm.

Police said an unknown offender punched the driver in the face, rendering him unconscious.

The offender also smashed the front windscreen of the taxi and kicked the rear driver's side panel before leaving the scene on foot.

The driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police said investigations were continuing.
