Sweet sounds of Singfest melodies
TWEED Heads came alive from August 23-26 with the uplifting sounds of the shire's singfest held at the Civic Centre.
The four day festival started on the Thursday night with a schools division concert, with Friday workshops running till 3pm, followed by a parade of performers with their banners, display of colours and an invitational concert.
Friday night also included a boat cruise social event with impromptu performances.
Saturday and Sunday were when the bulk of the festival concerts took place, with 40 groups performing a series of concerts and a singfest.
"The events exceeded my expectations," convenor Brett Logan said.
"Numbers attending were up 30% on the last singfest in 2010.
"Every concert was packed out with standing room taken up.
"Everyone was happy."
"It isn't always easy creating that balance between competition and festivity," he said.
"But it worked, with a lot of activity giving it a real festival feel.
"It was a great atmosphere and I'm extremely happy with the results."
