KIDS from Lindisfarne Primary School have donated over $400 worth of toys to the Kmart Wishing Tree.

Three year one classes from the school teamed up to make their own jelly and hold a gold coin donation casual-dress day with a Christmas theme.

All funds went to buying toys to put under the Kmart Wishing Tree for kids who would otherwise go without this Christmas.

Kmart employees were floored when the donations rolled in and couldn't keep the smiles off their faces while they counted the pile of coins donated by selfless kids.

Lindisfarne teacher Erin McGovern said the kids had thought up the idea and she was happy they were taking the initiative to spread goodwill this season.

"The kids came up with ways to fundraise and went with toys as they could see the result.

I'm really proud of them," she said.

"And the parents were just overwhelmed"

Michelle Munro of Kmart was taken aback by the kids fundraising effort and wanted to thank all involved.

"They came and put $400 worth of toys under the tree.

It was so great to see," she said.

The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is the largest appeal of its kind in Australia and aims to collect over 500,000 gifts for needy kids this year.
