MURWILLUMBAH South Infants School students were entertained by an orange-cone fire hose shooting game during an annual visit by local firefighters last week.

Principal Brendan Quinn said it was a highlight of the visit which also featured basic fire safety tips.

"Firemen Hugh and Phil spoke with the students about the appropriate actions to take, should they come across the unfortunate incident of a fire whether it is at home or out in the community," Mr Quinn said.

He said because the students were only very young there were no dramatic scenes such as the firefighters breaking into a car with the jaws of life.

Instead the focus was being aware of fire safety and even forming a plan with family members to put into practise in the event of a fire.

Mr Quinn said it was also important the potential future-firefighters enjoyed themselves.

"Even aside from checking out the truck, the uniforms and using the hose, it was a great experience for them," he said.
