Stolen car from Southport found burnt out in Mur’bah

A STOLEN car was located completely burnt out last week and now police have nothing to work with to catch the crooks.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Inspector Jason Dowds said a silver Ford Escape was found on Cane Rd, Murwillumbah about 12.30am on December 28.

Murwillumbah Rural Fire Service Senior Deputy Paul Robertson said when putting the fire out he believed the car to be stolen.

"Nobody was inside," he said.

It took roughly 30 minutes to put out the blaze.

Insp Dowds said the car was stolen from Southport beach in Queensland on the previous day.

He said police were quite limited with what they could do to find the thieves as all of the evidence was burnt.
