Sports club doubles as church

IF you're in doubt that sport was a religion for Aussies, a new church in Kirra may convince you.

Shalom Family Church has no building so it holds services at the Kirra Sports Club every Saturday at 9.30am.

The church was a member of the Southern Cross Association of Churches, a network of more than 300 apostolic ministries.

Pastor Gavin Irvine said the vision of the church was "to see the kingdom of God advance by being an expression of God's love, presence and supernatural power".

Mr Irvine completed his Bachelor of Theology this year through the Australian College of Ministries and has worked for the Churches of Christ NSW for nine years as a youth or associate pastor.

Mr Irvine was unavailable for comment on the new church having services at the sports club.
