A SILENT night in South Grafton came alive on Saturday with joyful singing and plenty of community spirit as St Stephen's Presbyterian Church welcomed local families to their special Carols on the Grass.

There was plenty of rockin' around the Christmas tree as the spirit of Christmas united attendees, who raised their voices and shared the important message of spending time with loved ones and remembering the birth of Christ.

Along with a favourite collection of carols, which included Away in a Manger, The First Noel, Joy to the World and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, the night was entwined with Bible readings and a special talk for the youngsters, who were also treated to a sausage sizzle, face painting and colourful Christmas balloons.

Families were invited to bring their picnic blankets so they could enjoy the atmosphere of the night and share with others the annual celebrations that make Christmas a special time for everyone.
