IF YOU are a diehard Bee Gees fan, you cannot miss seeing former guitarist Vince Melouney this weekend.

Melouney began on his path to stardom by founding pop-rock group Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs.

He was the lead guitarist from 1963-65 before moving to the United Kingdom in 1976, where he was invited to join the Bee Gees.

Melouney was the lead guitarist on their first three albums, helping to produce some of the band's most loved hits.

The guitarist said he is often questioned when he tells fans the Bee Gees were, for a short time, a five-piece band who rocked out on stages all over.

"I always start off by telling the people I was a member of the Bee Gees," he said.

"I thought people wouldn't like the history stuff but they love it."

His shows are spontaneous and fun and often you will be surprised with what Melouney can bring to the stage.

"It's always Bee Gees at the start but I do my own arrangement," he said.

"It's all done my own way and there won't be any high-pitched harmonies."

The show will last about three hours and will explore everything from the classic Bee Gees hits to his Billy Thorpe & the Aztec days, all the way though to some '60s, '70s and '80s rock tracks.

"I'm not a tribute band," Melouney said.

"I put a lot of work into it and I'm constantly on the road. I am a rock'n'roller who has sold lots and lots of records."

The performer said he was glad people were still into his style and live gigs were one of his favourite things to do.

"I just love to play the guitar," he said.

He was just 13 when he started learning.

"It was a Hawaiian one," he said.

"I got really into Elvis and I took it apart and rebuilt it so I could sling it across my shoulder and since then I haven't put it down."

This Friday the Murwillumbah RSL will host the free event.
