LINDISFARNE Anglican Grammar School students discovered a slippery visitor in the school grounds this morning when a snake dropped in for breakfast.

However, much to the intrigue of the students magpie was on the menu.

A quick thinking student took a photo of the carpet python consuming the magpie.

Needless to say, the magpie came off second best during the encounter.

Wildlife Relocation and Management Services co-owner Graeme Lloyd said the snake could take a few days to a week to digest the bird.

"It depends on weather," Mr Lloyd said.

"If it's warm than it could take a few days or if it's cool then it could take up to a week."

"They (carpet pythons) are docile at any time, but they are just like any other animal and individual animals have their own personalities."

The school puts signs up around the school to warn the children whenever a snake is spotted.
