Six Greens to run for council
TWEED Shire councillor Katie Milne is leading a team of six for The Greens' ticket at the council election in September.
Cr Milne is vying for a second term as a councillor.
"The Greens are thrilled to present such a strong and diverse team," Cr Milne said.
"Never before have we had such an enthusiastic response from members."
"My hope is for a more progressive council with a fresh perspective and a more creative, caring and consultative leadership approach," Cr Milne said.
Her team, in order on the ticket, includes Joanna Gardner from Byrrill Creek , Kirsten Ealand from Farrants Hill, Andrea Vickers from Palmvale, Michael Manley from Cabarita and Ian Willis from Eungella.
Candidate and Tweed Greens convener Andrea Vickers said The Greens has six candidates because six went through the nomination process.
"It's a great way to show the diversity of The Greens," Ms Vickers said.
"We like to offer the voters a choice."
Cr Milne was singing the praises of her number two yesterday.
"Joanna is a 30-year resident of the shire and was director of Mt Warning Preschool for 14 years," Cr Milne said.
"She owns a successful teaching business and has studied and worked in the ecotourism industry.
"As a member of Council's Community Working Group on Water she is a strong advocate for sustainable urban planning, with a particular focus on best practice water management in new developments to prevent wasteful public spending on dams."
